SARA JEGEMAN / JEGENAUER
Growing up in Småland, Sweden, I adored films by Fellini. Putting Anita Ekberg in Fontana di Trevi made such an impact on me. After finishing school I left as soon as I could for Rome. I lived for the nights and I met a mentor in painting, Alberto Parres , and somehow I always went to see art films during the day at the locally famous cinema Gli Azzurri Scipioni, to learn better Italian I thought, but instead I learnt a lot about film making.
When I came back to Sweden I left some of my artistic ambitions behind, and I went into law and became a Master of Law in 2002. I worked for private businesses and law firms and I showed talent for crisis management and security. I ended up in one of the most action filled places to be in; Cyber security, and I got to take part in global cyber exercises and travel all over the world as a policymaker for cyber security in Sweden.
Marriage took me to Switzerland, and I had to change everything in my life. I started to do art again, and since I have a keen eye for courage and authenticity, I started to make film portraits of brave personalities. By keeping the film making process close to my heart I manage to achieve an intimacy that I think is rare to find on film.
To sum up, I strongly believe that Nikos Kazantzakis was right; To be alive is to undo your belt and look for trouble.
Just like cyber once was new, I believe that the future is spiritual, and in my work, spirituality is what I am looking for.
